The Detroit Red Wings are locked in a tight race for home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs. Being the best road team in the NHL could help them achieve that goal. The Red Wings try for their fourth straight win overall and fifth in a row on the road when they face the Atlanta Thrashers in the opener of a three-game trip Friday night. Detroit (47-15-9) leads the league with 103 points, but is battling to hold off San Jose and Boston for the top overall spot. The Wings stayed hot Tuesday, defeating Philadelphia 3-2 at home and improving to 16-4-2 since a season-high five-game losing streak from Jan 17-31. After playing its previous two games away from Joe Louis Arena, Detroit heads back out on the road, where it’s 21-10-5 for an NHL-high 47 points.
